About Me.
Based in Bradford, West Yorkshire. For many years, I have assisted families in identifying their neurodivergent profile, gaining medical recognition if required, and establishing environments that enable the family to thrive together. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education: Autism. However, my most valuable knowledge has been obtained from my personal and professional experiences.
All my knowledge and experience come together in my book ‘Your Safe Space’ available on Amazon, in which the cornerstones of establishing a Safe Space are discussed, so you too can establish a neurosensory affirming Safe Space for your family to thrive.
It is my belief that the environments we are in have a huge impact on the way life is experienced. An autistic person has different neuro and sensory experiences, only by understanding these can we appropriately adapt the environment to support the persons unique needs.
I have an innate ability to view and ‘get it’ from another’s perspective. I then develop strategies to support the autistic person’s neurosensory divergences within the environment while respecting their voice first and foremost.
Throughout my extensive career, I have worked alongside autistic and neurodivergent people within a variety of home, work and educational settings. Developing and teaching supportive strategies, training staff, expanding emotional regulation and assisting people to explore and understand their neurodivergent profile, whilst positively accepting their way of being.
Why I Believe.
Over the past decade, as a family of five, we have recognised and embraced that we are neurodivergent. We are a mix of autistic, attention/hyperactive*, dyslexic and sensory divergent, with a pervasive drive for autonomy*.
My professional background gave me clear insight into how to provide strategies and support, my lived experience as a mum and wife to autistic people allowed me to use this knowledge to establish a home where everyone’s needs are accounted for.
Our home is our Safe Space in which we can all truly be ourselves and thrive.
Despite my extensive professional knowledge, my parental journey echoes that of many parents. We have had to continually defend our unconventional approaches, often facing dismissal from professionals and struggling against bureaucratic barriers for necessary support for our family.
To support other families, I navigate a neurodivergent affirming community.
BREATHE is for parents and carers of autistic and neurodivergent persons to meet, chat and develop supportive strategies surrounded by others who understand.
